Fuel Cell Box: h-tec’s annual hydrogen and fuel cell technology competition at schools in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The fifth year of North Rhine-Westphalia's "Fuel Cell Box" school competition began on 15 September and will run through to the final in May of 2010. The contest is led by EnergieAgentur.NRW and h-tec Hydrogen Energy Systems GmbH, and is intended to help students at North Rhine-Westphalia's secondary schools develop better understanding of the energy carrier "hydrogen" and the performance of "fuel cells" in a practical application. The pupils, grade 9 to 11 in the German state school system, are required to use a building set – the so-called "Fuel Cell Box” – to develop a model ferry that is driven by fuel cells and uses a hydrogen infrastructure.
The competition is under the patronage of North Rhine Westphalia's minister of economic affairs, Christa Thoben.
